About Us

Every Voice

Tri-Cities Area Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian organization founded in 1989. TCA Habitat has since built over 60 simple, decent and affordable homes in the Tri-Cities. Our hope is to eliminate sub-standard housing in our community. TCA Habitat works in partnership with area churches, businesses and individuals to build simple, decent houses that will become homes for our Partner families.

Ottawa County has an estimated 529 homeless families. Children of homeowners are 25% more likely to graduate from High School and 116% more likely to graduate from College than children of renters.

Through the donated time, hard work and resources of many in our community, Habitat houses are built at low cost and sold to the Partner Families without profit or interest. Partner Families must make a $500 down-payment and complete 200-400 hours of “Sweat Equity” before they can move into their home. Habitat provides a variety of supportive services to the families to help ease their transition to home ownership.

All Are Welcome

Tri-Cities Area Habitat for Humanity has an open-door policy:

All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people.

In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

A WORLD where EVERYONE has a decent place to LIVE.

We have a lot of exciting things in the works to expand our area and share our mission. The proceeds for the annual Hops 4 Homes Fundraiser helps to support the costs needed to implement the many programs we offer to the families in the communities we service:

  • Priority Home Repair – a program that allows eligible homeowners to access dollars to make repairs to their property that are essential to health and safety.
Aging in Place – a national initiative that provides home repairs to keep low-income seniors safe in their homes, which may include modifications to the interior to accommodate a wheelchair.
  • Veterans Build Affiliate – a national initiative that provides eligible veterans the opportunity to improve their basic housing, such as building ramps or assistance in accessing resources.
  • A Brush with Kindness – this program helps eligible seniors with exterior repairs when they have difficulties maintaining their home.
Home Construction or Rehab – Donor dollars, alongside volunteer labor, help us with the purchase of land, materials, supplies and labor of new home construction or rehab for our partner families’ homes to offer them a safe, affordable place to call home.
  • ReStore – in Grand Haven and another store soon to open in Norton Shores! A place to recycle building materials to keep them from the landfill and allow customers to make home improvements at affordable prices.
  • Cars for Homes – Your used car (or truck/boat/van) can help build a new home for a family in need. Well arrange everything & even pick it up for you! *tax-deductible as allowed by law

Your support will further our mission to help families stay safe in their homes, to provide affordable housing in our communities and see that everyone has a decent place to live.
